Obituary

William "Tripp" Nichols III passed away in Acworth, Georgia on May 20, 2016. He was born in Reidsville, North Carolina on October 23, 1958.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Constance Scoggin Nichols. He is survived by his father William Nichols, Jr., his wife, Melinda Morris Nichols, his sons, William "Nick" Nichols IV and Zachary Morris Nichols, his daughters, Grace Anne Nichols and Katherine Leigh Nichols, sisters Jean Nichols Catlett and husband Brian, Nancy Nichols Price and husband Larry, and brother Anthony Armistead Nichols and his wife Kimberly, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tripp was a graduate of Reidsville High School and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Class of 1981), where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, Film and Television. He began his career at WITN in Washington, North Carolina and moved on to WRAL TV in Raleigh, NC where he directed the 6 and 11 o'clock news.  He met his wife Melinda while living in Raleigh, and they moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1993, where he worked as a director at WXIA 11 until 2000.  He worked various freelance jobs including Turner Broadcasting from 2007 to present as an AD and Director.

Tripp was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. But his priorities in life were his children and he spent most of his free time with his family. He supported them in every endeavor they chose. He spent countless hours at baseball, football, soccer and softball games and practices, helping with homework, patching up things from boo boo's to broken hearts.

Tripp also had a passion for photography and writing. He had an eye for the camera and had a photography business. He has also written two children's books, and received a publishing contract on the very day of his passing.
