William "Bill" Salter Hayes

William "Bill" Salter Hayes, 71, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away on September 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and cherished memories.

Born on August 7, 1954, Bill graduated from North Cobb High School in 1972 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Recreation from Georgia Southern College. He dedicated his career to protecting his community, serving proudly with the Cobb County Fire Department for 26 and a half years before his well-earned retirement in 2008. He also treasured his lifelong friendships, many of which began in elementary school and remained strong throughout his life. Bill will be remembered for his love of gardening, music, tennis, traveling, and most of all, his family.

He is survived by his loving sisters Malley Addicks, Gayle Nettles (Henry), and Laura Sangster (Stan). He was a proud and devoted uncle to his nieces Jill Stooksbury (Scott), Tricia Bedenbaugh "his favorite niece" (Michael), and Holly Sangster; and to his nephews Mark Nettles and Roddy Morgan. His legacy continues with his great-nieces Leia Anthony (Neil), Alyssa Gallagher (Sean), and Carly Bedenbaugh; his great-nephew Chris Hamrick; and his great-great-nieces Ella and Emmy Anthony.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in his honor.

Bill's life was one of service, laughter, and love, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community forever.
