Obituary

Tanya R. Winkeljohn, 73, passed peacefully – as she lived her life -- on Wednesday, Dec. 14, following congestive heart failure and, as she would say, "then some." For more than 25 years a resident of Marietta and Kennesaw, Ga., Tanya was born Dec. 23, 1942 to Herbert D. and Lois E. Rorex in Montgomery, Ala. After formative years in McLean, Va., she graduated from Purdue University, worked in theater arts and then crafted a robust career in retail jewelry design, sales and management in Columbus, Ohio, while building a family with fellow Purdue graduate, Doug Winkeljohn. With an open heart, kind spirit and a gift for gab, she never had an enemy. Survived by three sons, Matt of Atlanta, Brad of Los Angeles (and wife Amy Owen), and Marshall of Kennesaw (and wife Sonya), she is remembered for a warm soul which made the Columbus home a grand central station as Tanya's open-door, open-refrigerator policies and congeniality were magnetic for her sons' friends and neighborhood kids. Tanya also is survived by her mother, Lois, 99, sister Saundra and niece, Megan, of Ashburn, Va., grandchildren Patrick, Victoria and Veronica Winkeljohn of Atlanta, Lucy Winkeljohn of Kennesaw, and nephew Mark Winkeljohn of Van Wert, Ohio. Our dear mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt will be remembered Sunday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. at the Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Rd., Marietta, Ga. 30066 (http://www.mariettafuneralhome.org/). Visitors will be received at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
