Obituary

Sherman Eugene (Gene) Landers passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.  He was born in Talking Rock, GA. on December 6, 1932.  He was the only child of the late Vernon and Leo Landers.  He played basketball in high school.  He entered the Air Force in 1951 where he served as switchboard operator in the communications area, and on kitchen staff, where he always remembered the "perks" of working in the Kitchen!, Yes, he loved to eat! After he got out of the service, he went to work full time at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in the Hardware Department.  It was there that he met his wife, the late Monica Jimmy Payne.  They married in 1957, and their daughter, Lisa, was born in May of 1958.  Gene continued to be the "Ultimate Salesman" until he retired from Sears.  After that he became a "Professional Loafer," and was always in quest of the best coffee, vittles, and desserts in the Southeast.  He loved to meet his buddies for coffee each morning, and you could always find him tinkering on lawnmowers in his backyard… a jokester, great conversationalist, and just all-around fun guy loved by all!

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa; son-in-law, Doug; and two granddaughters, Heather and Lauren… and, countless other kids that knew him as GRANDADDY.

Memorial Gifts can be made to Wellstar Hospice, Ellen's Bereavement Children's Books, 805 Sandy Plains Rd. Suite 100, Marietta, GA 30066.
