Sandra Lee "Sandy" Abernathy, 71, of Cartersville, died Thursday, September 19, 2019.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Friday afternoon, September 27 ^th in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Smith officiating.  Mrs. Abernathy was born in Detroit Michigan and had lived in Cartersville for the past 17 years.  She was formerly employed as a teacher's assistant with the Cobb County School System and was a member of the Park Street Baptist Church.  Sandy is survived by her husband, Ronnie Abernathy of Cartersville; children, Laura (Mike) Minear of Emmett, Idaho, Doug Berndt of Madison, Wisconsin, and Heather Berndt of Douglasville; 2 grandchildren, Chelsea and Jason; several nieces and nephews also survive.  The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home 4947 North Main St. Acworth, GA 30101 770-974-3133.
