Roberta Jessie Hodges-Bartol, 86, of Acworth, GA, passed peacefully at home on November 23, 2024.
Born December 28, 1937 in Mena, Arkansas, Roberta "Bert" graduated from Mena High School and attended the University of Arkansas. She joined the USAF, where she was Airman 2nd Class and served as the Secretary to the Commander at Randolph Air Force Base. She met and married, fellow servicemember, Thomas Matthew Bartol in 1959. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Bert was a lifelong vocalist and musician. She began performing at an early age and taught herself to play the guitar, she learned to play piano at the age of 80. She loved people and shared her musical talent throughout her lifetime at churches and retirement homes as well as the Cobb County Senior Center with her close friend Joanne Keller, of Acworth, calling themselves Songbirds. Driven by her love of people, Bert spread joy and happiness through her music. It was hard not to grin when she entered the room with her guitar and her warm, infectious smile. She also shared her love of people through crochet, donating over 500 hand crafted hats to local cancer treatment centers, as well as many beautiful gifts for family and friends. Roberta is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Frances Deprato- Hodges, and her sister, Mary Frances Hodges-Lyle. She is survived by her husband Thomas Matthew Bartol, their three children Thomas Matthew Bartol Jr (Wendy) of Carlsbad, CA, Frances Bartol Davis (Scott) of Jasper, GA, Michael Joseph Bartol (Kelly) of Boulder Creek, CA, brother Robert Lewis Hodges Jr (Carolyn) of Penney Farm, FL, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The Requiem Mass is Friday, November 29 at 10:30 am at St Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, Acworth, Ga. Bert will be laid to rest at 2:30 pm at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Ga, with full military honors. The pallbearers are son Thomas Bartol Jr, nephew David Lyle, grandsons Alexander Ferguson and Thomas Miller, son-in-law Scott Davis, and family friend Brian Schintzius. The family asks for donations to be made to the charity of your choosing, in her name. The family will receive friends 9:00-9:45am Friday morning at Collins Funeral Home, 4947 N. Main St., Acworth, GA 30101
