Obituary

Robert (Bob) Beecher Mero, 95, of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 5 th , 2020 with his three adult children by his side.

Bob, or Boppa as his family knew him, was born on December 26 th , 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Mero of Canastota, New York.  Upon entering the service in 1943, Bob and his two brothers served with honor during WWII.  He received the Bronze Star for "bravery exhibited under the tremendous amount of fire directed upon him" during one patrol operation with his unit, the Black Panther Division in the French Atlantic port cities of Lorient and St. Nazaire.  After the war ended, Bob attended and graduated from Morrisville Ag and Tech, Morrisville, NY.

On June 28 th , 1947, Bob married Mary Ellen Argersinger at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Chittenango, New York which was the beginning of their whirlwind 70-year marriage.  Between 1948 and 1950, Bob and Mary Ellen had their three children:  Michael, Kaye, and Karen.  By 1957, the Mero family had moved to Potsdam, New York, where Bob had a successful career as the Technical Assistant to the Director of the Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam, NY.  Bob and Mary Ellen moved to Acworth, Georgia in 1978 where they built their home and lived for 38 years.

Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; he was multi-talented, a patent-holding inventor, and could build, fix, repair, or invent anything.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Ellen and is survived by his three children Michael Mero of Summerville, Kaye Mero of Acworth, and Karen Philips of Buffalo, New York; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.  Bob and Mary Ellen were founding members of the Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kennesaw, GA.

Bob requested to be cremated.  His and Mary Ellen's ashes will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.  A celebration of life service will be held at the Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kennesaw, GA at 4:00pm Tuesday, March 10, 2020 with a reception following the service.  Flowers can be sent to the Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.collinsfuneralhome.org In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the local, non-profit of your choice.
