Richard "Rick" Edward McDowell, Jr., 72, of Acworth, died Friday, June 22, 2018. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 11:30 am in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Bruce Publicover officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Georgia National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

Richard (Rick) was born April 16, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama to Richard Edward McDowell Sr. and Frances Crook McDowell. Both parents preceded him in death.  Richard is survived by wife Kathryn (Kathy) McDowell, brother Robert (Bobby) and sister-in-law Sandy McDowell, step-mother Virginia (Ginny) McDowell and his children Donna with her husband Shaun Luster of Villa Rica, Georgia, Henry Ryckeley of Acworth, Georgia and Troy Ryckeley with his wife Kimberly, of Grovetown, Georgia.  He has four beloved grandchildren: Donna and Shaun's daughter Madison and son Mason, and Troy and Kimberly's daughter Darcy and son Connor.

Rick served in the U.S. Army Security Agency, stationed in Vietnam and also in Japan, forming friendships that survive to this day.

Rick was trained as a graphic artist and was a long-time employee of the Swift Tom's Type Shop, the source of many life-long friends.

His latest venture and employment was Main Street Automotive in Kennesaw, Georgia which he owned and operated with his business partner Brian Stephens.
