Obituary

Philomena O'Quin Edwards, 79, of Marietta, died Sunday, September 3rd, 2017 surrounded by her husband Marcus Edwards and daughter Ita OQuin Doré.A funeral mass will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, September 7th at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1815 Blackwell Rd, Marietta, GA 30066.  Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 2:30pm .

Philomena is survived by her husband, Marcus Edwards as well as her daughter, Ita OQuin Doré and son in law Kirk Anthony Doré and their six children, Marie Claire Doré, Cameron Blake Blomquist, Joseph Brett Doré, Connor Alan Gilbert, Olivia Rae Gilbert and Savanna Ita Doré. Philomena's step daughter Christine Edwards-Abraham also survives her along with her four children, along with her step son  Marcus Edwards Jr and his daughter Maria Edwards. In addition, Philomena is survived by beloved sisters, nieces and nephews in Ireland where she is originally from.

Philomena was born in the small dairy farming town of Mitchelstown, Ireland. She later went to nursing school in London, England to become a Registered Nurse. She immigrated to America in 1968 marrying her first husband Charles Ray OQuin and having her only child, Ita Maria O'Quin (Doré). She later remarried Marcus Edwards.

Philomena, or Phil as she was known to her friends, was a talented artist who shared her love of art in many ways. She taught classes in various locations in Marietta for decades as well as volunteering at local schools and senior centers. She inspired thousands over her almost 40 year career and had many friends and admirers of her talent. Philomena also loved to travel visiting all 7 continents even the Antarctic. She was an avid adventurer with a light hearted gypsy spirit who loved engaging in new cultures and new adventures. She always had a story to share and a twinkle in her eye while telling it. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and a cherished friend to many.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 6th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Marietta Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be expressed at w ww.mariettafuneralhome.org
