Obituary

Michael "Micky" Methvin, 59, of Kennesaw, died Monday, October 20th, 2015. A memorial service will be held at RiverStone Church on Saturday, October 24th at 3:00pm. A letter from the family: "My glorious husband Micky, a devoted son, a daddy like no other, a dear brother, I will try to tell this tale, "this tale as old as time." Michael Eugene Methvin was born to amazing Jack and Jean Methvin in Orlando, FL., their first born. He was born what they call "a blue baby." They would later find out that he had a congenital heart defect, specifically a single ventricle with transposition. I know from his pictures and the stories, what a happy childhood he had. Even when he ran out of breath, he would ride his bike, pass-out and keep going. Three sisters were added to this precious family, Janice, Terri (who was the bald headed baby he wanted, he thought it would be a boy-wrong!) and Becky (who he always told she was adopted, found on the side of the road.) Life stayed busy with 3 younger sisters. This boy, who took a small Palomino horse out every night to sit in the yard, believed in miracles early. He thought if he left it outside at night it would grow big. The only thing that grew big was his heart! School, cars, motorcycles, movies, and drums filled his life. Before he turned 16, they were finally able to get a good picture of his heart. A Blalock shunt was completed on his birthday. Sixteen came and almost went when he suffered a stroke after they had to go in again the next day to stop bleeding. He told me that he woke up to Jesus at the foot of his bed telling him he would be ok. It was a long recovery. The stroke affected his left side and he had to relearn everything. His dad would sit at his bed and give him a peanut M & M if he could guess the color. He only saw black and white. A dear friend and fellow drummer, Ben Larke, would come over and sit behind him to get his left side going again. He had to learn to speak, read, and write all over again. Yet, he still graduated in 1974- on time, with his class. His dad started him at classes in college to work on computers. He knew he could no longer be a Volkswagen mechanic. (It didn't stop Micky from working on cars though.) So, thanks to his Dad's push, he became a successful computer technician. So talented! Micky and I met at Lyman High School through our mutual friend, Debbie Wildermuth. We all went to the same church, Community United Methodist in Castleberry, FL. I graduated in 1975. We would still see each other and wave at church. He was still playing drums at church and I taught Sunday School. We had a group going to Disney World for their Valentine's Day. I had no one to go with. I asked our friend Debbie, who was going, who I should take. She suggested Micky. I had been praying who God really wanted me to have. I had not been dating and was quite tired of guys in general. So, on February 1st, 1976, I began our tale by asking him to go with me. Of course, you know the answer! Almost 40 years together! A glorious, romantic courtship led to our marriage August 5, 1977. Our nicknames "Sunshine" and "Moonbeam" paving the way for a truly heavenly light filled journey. Our first child, Jason, was born May of 1982. The battle was on if I even got to hold him. Micky had a front pack that Jason stayed in, against that heart beat that sounded like he was back inside Mom. Our 2nd child, Rachel, was added in 1991. The little girl that both Micky and Jason prayed that God would give them. We were in FL until 1985, then moved to Georgia. Micky and I both felt we had come home finally. The seasons, the hills, all became a playground for us. He was employed by many different electronic companies, Mitsubishi, and finally Heidelberg before he went on disability. Our family grew as Jason gave us 2 darling grandchildren, William-9, Zoey-7. They made Paga and Maga (us) the most thoughtful cards expressing their sorrow. Zoey was out flying a kite so Paga would see it. William wanted to know if he was still "Sticky Joe", a name Paga called him. He really didn't like the name yet here he was wanting to hear it from him again! The sweetest blessing was the addition of his wife Melissa married 4 years, who grew up together. She is the daughter of our dear friends of 24 years, Jeff and Pam Bornstein. Micky loved his daughter-in-love so dearly. I also know how much Micky loved and wanted great things for Cody Harris, Rachel's boyfriend. How dear to us these last days in the hospital. Loving Micky, helping me, a calm force for us all! Micky's health was pretty uneventful until 1993. The struggles began and as we know ended October 20th of this week. The valleys and the mountains we walked, laughing and sighing, smiling and crying. His wonderful Congenital Heart Team at Emory, a precious blessing, (so anointed!), Puppeteers at Community United Methodist, New Believer's Ministry at Calvary Assembly in Orlando, FL., Calvary Assembly in Dunwoody, GA, working with the youth, Bible studies at Mount Paran North, the delightful plays at Mount Paran (Micky always a disciple), Dearest Adult Congenital Heart Association of Atlanta, Riverstone Healing Night of Prayer, our faithful cell group from Riverstone-all these wonderful activities filled and fueled our lives. Our deepest, most gracious thank you to everyone who touched the life of Micky Methvin. Our hearts now have holes that will never be filled, yet his is completely whole!! I know many of you are blessing us by "Go Fund Me." We are overwhelmed with appreciation. Please also consider supporting the Adult Congenital Heart Association that we have been a part of for 10 years. We will be having our annual walk next April. Rachel and I will continue the work we have done there. If you are attending the service, we are wearing the color aqua, Micky's favorite color. Also, would you please take a moment to write out your favorite memory of him. I sign this with a grateful, "Wonderful World.""
