Obituary

Mattie Ann Brue (née Fields) died peacefully on January 23, 2017 in Marietta, GA after a short illness. Mattie Ann was born in Xenia, OH on June 19, 1931 to her parents, Alma Stewart and Clarence Fields. She was a graduate of York College in Queens, New York graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1953 she married Clewis Brue, Jr. and shortly after moved to Queens, New York where she became an employee of several government agencies including HUD. Mattie was a member of NANBPW (National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women). After retiring Mattie volunteered her time with PAL (Police Athletic League) working with the after school program. Mattie loved going to the horse races and watching basketball.  She later moved down to Marietta, GA so that she could spend more time with her family. Mattie played dominos with her neighbors and always seemed to win.  Her most favorite pastime was spoiling her grandchildren with lunch dates to Olive Garden.


Mattie Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Pam and granddaughters Kyra and Deiah of Marietta, GA. Sisters-in-law Harvenia Washington and Renee Clarke as well as a host of nieces and nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clewis; her son Stephen Brue and siblings, Booker T. Washington, Jr.; Philip Washington; Clarence Fields; and Imogene Goree.

Funeral Services will be Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11am in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Steven Haskett officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton, GA. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.
