Mary Sue Casey Gibson went to be with her Lord on August 20, 2019.  Surrounded by friends and family, and in the comfort of her home, Mary Sue left this world just as she lived her life: with grace and dignity.  Born on September 17, 1925 to Ross Kindred and Jessie Brown Pope, Mary Sue was raised in Chattanooga, TN and Acworth, GA with her two brothers (Ross B. Pope & John C. Pope, both deceased) and two sisters (Dora Pope Terry, deceased & Martha Jean Pope Godfrey) all of whom graduated from Acworth High School.  Mary Sue married her high school sweetheart, Bill Casey, Sr., who she lost in a 1963 Jeep accident.  She later married Robert F. "Bob" Gibson who died on Thanksgiving Day 2018.

Mary Sue loved Jesus, her family, her many friends and her community.  A lifelong FDR Democrat, she often lamented that several of her children were conservative Republicans.  She was active in local politics and helped her husband, Bob, in his successful bid for Alderman and, later, Mayor of Acworth.  She served her community as Red Cross volunteer, member of Carrie Dyer Women's Club, Beta Sigma Sorority and Acworth Garden Club. Mary Sue chaired the Acworth Housing Authority, worked as a Cobb County poll manager and, for over 25 years, was a member of the Cobb County Library Board.  She served multiple GA Governors, all Democrats, as docent at the Governor's Mansion.  In her later years, Mary Sue was a bailiff for the Magistrate Court of Cobb County, a role she thoroughly enjoyed.

Mary Sue treated everybody with love and respect and will be long remembered for her willingness to help anyone in need.  She is survived by her sister Martha Jean Godfrey of Gadsden, AL (Nick), 7 children, Gwendolyn Casey Hanson (Harry), Patricia Jean Casey Tumlin (Wendell, deceased), Mary Elizabeth Casey Watson (John), Theresa Casey Close (Chris), William T. Casey, Jr., (Jeannette) Constance Duane Casey, John Timothy Gibson (Rosie), 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Home at 11 AM followed by a noon memorial service for Mary Sue and Bob Gibson on Saturday, August 31, 2019.   The family extends its sincere appreciation to the amazing staff of Amity Care Hospice for the compassionate and talented care that allowed Mary Sue to depart her earthly life in peace and comfort.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to American Diabetes Association ( diabetes.org ), or Alzheimer's Association ( alz.org/ ).
