Obituary

Marian McDonald, 89, of Marietta, died Monday, December 7, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 11 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Nugent officiating.

Marian graduated from Kenmare High School and Minot Business College in North Dakota. She ran a grocery store for several years.  She married Jimmie on August 3, 1952. After moving several times, they settled in Marietta, GA in 1977, where she was a mother, homemaker, and preschool teacher. She was an active and beloved member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 38 years.  Marian and Jimmie fostered over 60 children in the 1970's and 1980's.  This led to the adoption of youngest daughter Jammie.  In 2006, Marian survived a road rage shooting.  She was shot while driving her car.  The bullet went through both legs. It was a miracle she survived with no permanent injuries.  God gave us an extra 9 years with her.  Marian enjoyed gardening, decorating, putting up wallpaper, and painting (everything from houses, fences, walls, and pictures.).  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and entertaining at her home. Most of all, she enjoyed going to her grandkids sporting events and spending time with them at the McDonald pool.

Marian is survived by her Daughters, Sally Ranae Ford (Allan), of Savannah, and Jammie Trinette Wilbanks (Tanner), of Valdosta; Sons, James Douglas McDonald (Jan), of Coatesville, PA, and Tim Andrew McDonald (Keri), of Carrollton; Sister Shirley Nelson, of Rialto, CA; Brother, Floyd Gravesen, of Kenmare, ND; and 8 Grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jimmie McDonald; sister, Carol Byrd; and brothers, Marvin Gravesen and LeRoy Gravesen.

The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Thursday, December 10 at Marietta Funeral Home and from 10:00am - 11:00am on Friday, December 11 at St. Paul United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Paul United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.mariettafuneralhome.org .
