Lona Poteet Cordell, 93, of Ellijay, formerly of Kennesaw, died Friday, April 21, 2017.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Thursday afternoon in the chapel of Collins Funeral home with Pastor Ricky Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in Kennesaw Memorial Park.  A native of Blairsville, Mrs. Cordell had lived in Ellijay for 7 years, and had previously lived in Kennesaw.  She worked as a Technician's Assistant in the nursery at Kennestone Hospital for 25 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Acworth.  Mrs. Cordell was preceded in death by husband Robert Cordell and son Ken Cordell both of Kennesaw; brother Vernon Poteet and sister Lucille McDonald.  She is survived by her children, Ann (Joe) Obregon of Ellijay, Sue (Miles) Callahan of Acworth, Stanley Cordell of Bradley, SC, and Jerry (Leeanna) Cordell of Georgia; grandchildren, Shannon Callahan, Stan Cordell, Crystal Resico, Obie Obregon, Brandy Tankersley, and Wade Todd; great grandchildren, Kaylee and Gabe; sisters, Carmoleta Holtzclaw of Fayetteville and Maggie Abernathy of Murphy, NC; brother in law, Lewis (Alice) Cordell of Woodstock; several nieces and nephews also survive.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home 4947 North Main St. Acworth, GA 30101 770-974-3133.
