Linda Sue (nee Walraven) Jongema, 76, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 20, 2020 after an extended battle with dementia.

Linda was born September 10, 1943 to Gordon Lee Walraven and Frankie Lee (nee Rogers) Walraven in Ramhurst, Georgia. Linda graduated from Valley Point High School in Dalton, Georgia in 1962 and went on to a successful career as a histologist working at several laboratories including Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Cartersville Medical Center, St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta, Marietta Dermatology, Atlanta Dermatopatholgy & Pathology Associates and SouthEastern Pathology in Rome, Georgia.

Linda married Richard ("Pete") P. Jongema III on June 28, 1973 and together they raised one daughter, Jennifer Robin.

Linda was preceded in death by both of her parents, all four of her brothers—Ronald David Walraven, Gordon ("Bob") Walraven Jr., Wayne Walraven, and James Walraven, one sister, Rosa (Walraven) McIntyre and several beloved nieces and other family members.

She is survived by her husband, Richard "Pete" Jongema III of Acworth; daughter, Jennifer (Stephen) Roe of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her treasured grandson Isaac Roe of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister Kathryn Fry of Dalton; sister Geneva Cox of Ringgold; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, special friends and other family members. Linda was cared for by Ms. Cindy Morgan of Woodstock for several of the last years of her life and the family counts her as a special friend.

Linda was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years and served as proudly with that organization through the Acworth chapter. She also served as a Girl Scout troop leader for much of her daughter's youth and treasured "her girls" and the many camping trips and adventures she was able to be part of. Linda also served as a "band mom" throughout her daughter's high school years at Cass High School in Cartersville, Georgia. She fondly recalled the teens she helped chaperone, the memories made there and friendships that were formed.

The family will host a memorial celebration of life at a later date, as per current public health precautions and mandates. All family, friends and loved ones will be notified and welcomed to attend.

As per Mrs. Jongema's wishes, her body will be cremated and interred at a private family ceremony. Memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association at Alz.org .
