Obituary

Lillie Lyles Barrett, 93, of Marietta, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24th at 11am in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Pence and Reverend Jason Gerdes officiating. Burial will follow on Monday, October 26th at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC. Born Lillie Marcile Lyles, April 24, 1922 in Huntersville NC to Julius Magnus Lyles and Mary Jane Grubb. Lillie moved to Charlotte NC with her family as a young child. She grew up in Charlotte and went to work at Highland Park Manufacturing as a cloth inspector. She married Paul Buford Barrett on November 23, 1940 in York, SC. She was married to him until his passing July 14, 1960. She worked at Highland Park Manufacturing until it closed. She then went to work for Soabar Company running a printing press until it closed. She moved to Marietta, GA in 1984 where she went to work at the Lassiter High School lunch room until retiring in 2004. She had two children Curtis Lee Barrett (Nancy) of Marietta, GA and Donna Raye Johnson (Dock) of Randleman, NC. She had three sisters and two brothers: Inez Jones, Sarah Tucker, Evelyn Lyles, Penry Lyles and J.C. (Tommy) Lyles. All are deceased except Sarah Tucker of Matthews, NC. She had four grandchildren: Jonathan Lee Barrett, Jeffrey Martin Barrett, Lona Faye Johnson Drake, and Kelly Raye Johnson. She had five great grandchildren: Taylor Nicole Ellis, Nicholas Bryant Ellis, Zachery Lee Barrett, Peyton Lillie Barrett, and Parker Matthew Barrett. One great great grandchild Zoey Grace Ellis. She resided with her son until her passing and will be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm at Marietta Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Nita McFarland Hall Scholarship, 1401 Dogwood Cr. SE, Smyrna, GA 30080.
