Lanny Dale Thornton, age 64, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on December 5, 2017 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Arlene Croy Thornton, his two children, Kelly Thornton and Andrew Thornton, his sister, Doris Reid, his brother, Greg (Pam) Thornton, and many nieces and nephews.

Lanny was a member of Noonday Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and assisted in the creation of the Prayer Ministry.  Lanny was employed in the printing industry as a systems and technical trainer for over 30 years.  Lanny graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1971.  Lanny had an exceptional affinity for music, attending concerts of his favorite bands, and watching westerns on television.  He was also an avid photographer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Upon retirement, Lanny could always be found sitting on his front porch, rain or shine.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday December 10, 2017 at  2pm in the Chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Dr. Don Mason officiating. Internment to follow at the Noonday Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will accept friends and family for visitation on Sunday December 10 2017 from 11am  until the funeral hour.  Online condolences may be made at www.mariettafuneralhome.org
