Lanier (Lenny) Waters passed away Aug. 22, 2025 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville. He was born Sept. 30, 1948 in Cleveland, OH to Loys and Mazie (Hunter) Waters. He attended school in Ohio and graduated in 1966 from Willoughby South High. He immediately joined the Navy and was later transferred to Marines to be trained as a Hospital Corpsman. He served 3 years and spent the last year in Vietnam treating wounded. After coming home he met Milly Newman who had written to him while he was there. They married in June of 1970. A week later he went to work at Atlanta Gas Light in Marietta. He retired from there after 42 years in 2012. They moved to Morganton to help take care of aging parents (after retiring). He was ordained as a deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church in January of 1973. Later went to Rock Baptist Church as Founding Member and Deacon in 1986. He became the Song Leader. He loved music of all kinds but especially Gospel. He & 3 brothers formed a singing group called Holy Manna & sung together for many years. He was very enthusiastic in his singing and his life and always put God and Church first. Loved everyone and told them so. He always had a smile. He loved sports and played on a gas co. softball team and a senior league after retiring. Also bowled on a league.

He is survived by his wife, Milly;  two children: Son, Chris (Sonja) Waters, and daughter, Carrie Waters Montooth (Chris); two granddaughters, RyLee Waters and Reese Waters Faulk (Jeremy).
