Obituary

John Jefferson Boyd, Jr. entered into rest on August 27, 2016 in Marietta, Georgia. A very brief double memorial service will be held 2:00pm on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Chapel of Marietta Funeral home for John and his wife Sandra Faye Lowry Boyd, who entered into rest just 9 days after him on September 5, 2016. The Rev. Jimmy Day will be officiating the service. John was born in Charleston, SC, on June 10, 1942, preceded in death by his parents John (Jack) Jefferson Boyd, Sr. and Frances Flowers Boyd of Aiken, SC. He lived in North Augusta, SC for thirty years before spending the latter part of his life in Marietta, Ga. He was educated at The Citadel, Augusta State and Harvard University. He received his professional certifications as a Certified Data Processor (CDP) and Certified Computing Professional (CCP) from the International Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP). He was employed by the Georgia Railroad Bank & Trust Co., First Financial Management Corporation, Director of the Augusta/Richmond County Data Processing Commission and retired as a Technology Director of the Cobb County School District. He served as President of the Augusta Chapter of Data Processing Management Association(DPMA); Atlanta Chapter of Metro Area Plus Managers of Information Systems(MAPMIS); Georgia Chapter of Government Managers of Information Systems(GMIS) and Georgia Managers of Educational Information Systems(GAMEIS). He was appointed by Governor Zell Miller to the task force for Educational Technology in Georgia and served on the technology Advisory Committee for Chattahoochee Technical College. He also was a statistician for the Atlanta Falcons Football Club; Treasurer and vestry member of St. John's Episcopal Church; a guest speaker at numerous civic organizations and published several articles in technology magazines and journals.  John is survived by his beloved wife of 50+ years Sandra Faye Lowry Boyd, his children, Jefferson Lowry Boyd, John Stacey Boyd, Amanda Nell Boyd Albertelli, grandchild Courtney Faye Leavell, his sisters, Frances Montague Boyd McDaniel of North Augusta, SC, Nancy Virginia Boyd Bethmann of Atlantic Beach, FL, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at Marietta Funeral Home 915 Piedmont Rd. Sandra Faye Lowry Boyd entered into rest on September 5, 2016 in Marietta, Georgia. A very brief double memorial service will be held 2:00pm on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Chapel of Marietta Funeral home for Sandra and her husband John Jefferson Boyd, Jr. who entered into rest just 9 days before her on August 27, 2016.  The Rev. Jimmy Day will be officiating the service.  Sandra was born in Augusta, GA on January 16, 1944, preceded in death by her parents Ollie Rudolph Lowry and Nellie Brewer of Beach Island, SC. She lived in North Augusta, SC for thirty years before spending the latter part of her life in Marietta, Ga. Sandra was a church secretary and member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She worked at Brown Radiology and was a self-taut artist. She painted many watercolors and did cross-stich, needlepoint, and chair caning.  Sandra is survived by her children, Jefferson Lowry Boyd, John Stacey Boyd, Amanda Nell Boyd Albertelli, grandchild Courtney Faye Leavell.   In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favorite charity.
