Jason Charles Bourne's Obituary
Jason Charles Bourne, 35, of Cartersville, died Monday, February 26, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rolling Hills Memory Gardens. A lifelong resident of Cartersville, Jason was employed by the City of Marietta and was educated in the Bartow County Public School System. Some of his accomplishments in elementary school were receiving a testing award and being an outstanding student in the second grade, making honor roll in the third grade, and playing on the Challenger Baseball Team. He was named Bartow's Poster Child for the March of Dimes when he was eight years old. While in middle school, he was a member of the Clown Corps. Jason graduated Woodland High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of multiple Etowah Foundation Scholarships. He was a journalism student at Woodland and won an essay contest to interview the players on the Atlanta Braves Baseball Team and sit in the press box to watch the baseball game. Jason attended Floyd College (Georgia Highlands College) where he was inducted into the National Creative Society as a Charter Life Master Member, elected to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges (2002-2003), and won the Dr. Phillip Dillard Award for enhancing disability awareness at the college. He graduated Kennesaw State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications. Jason's hobbies included collecting autographs. He met and/or collected autographs from many famous people including Mark Richt, Vince Dooley, John Smoltz, Phil Niekro, Tom Glavin, Ryan Klesko, Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou of the Andy Griffith Show), Michael Oher, Roddy White, and the Harlem Globetrotters. An avid fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, Jason could always be found, glued to the TV during college football season, watching the game. Jason was preceded in death by Milton N. "Grandpa" Turner and Martha Hayes "Grandma" Bourne and is survived by his parents, Charles and Gayle Bourne of Cartersville; sisters, Amanda (Eric) Carmel of Cartersville and Megan Bourne of Thomasville; maternal grandmother, Sara A. Turner of White; paternal grandfather, Dudley M. "GI" (Irene) Bourne, Sr. of White House, TN; and his beloved dog, Shorty; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends also survive. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to help with funeral expenses. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Marietta Funeral Home 915 Piedmont Rd. Marietta, GA 30066 770-422-1234.
