James Powell "JP" Morgan, 81, of Marietta, died Sunday, November 12, 2017.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 11:00am in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2:00PM.

Mr. Morgan was a native of Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi State with an Agricultural Degree. He moved to Marietta in 1970.  Mr. Morgan owned and operated a number of businesses in the area, including several Gulf and Shell service stations, Seafood and Cheese Shop, Morrell's Restaurant, and Uncle Hugh's Catfish House.  He then went to work for the Bartow County Sheriff's Department where he retired.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Connie Morgan, of Marietta; daughters, Rhetta M. Porto, of Canton, Gwyn M. Watson, of Canton, and Wendi Cooper, of Kingston; as well as 7 grandchildren.
