James Larry Hinds, 86, passed away on August 15, 2026, in Acworth, Georgia.
Born on New Year's Day, 1940, in Carbon Hill, Alabama, Larry was the son of Jeanette and James Hinds. Larry devoted much of his professional life to education, serving as a teacher, coach, and school administrator. During his career, he served as a vice principal, high school principal, and Assistant Superintendent for the Cobb County School District. Following his career in education, Larry began a second career as a financial consultant, helping clients plan for their futures through thoughtful savings and retirement planning. In 1968, Larry married Harriet Hicks Hinds, and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling together and made their home in Acworth, Georgia, for more than 50 years.A lifelong athlete, Larry attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, on a basketball scholarship and later earned a master's degree from the University of Alabama. He was also an accomplished golfer and especially enjoyed spending time fishing with friends. Larry was an active member of Acworth United Methodist Church, where his faith and church community were an important part of his life. Above all, Larry was devoted to Harriet, his family, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his years in education and financial service. He will be remembered for his dedication to others and a life spent helping people prepare for brighter futures. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jeanette Hinds. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Harriet Hicks Hinds; two nephews; and several cousins. A memorial service celebrating Larry's life will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Acworth United Methodist Church, 4340 Collins Circle, Acworth, Georgia 30101. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Acworth United Methodist Church (acworthumc.org) or to the Alzheimer's Association (Alzheimer's Association /donate).
