James Andrew Chekan
, 73 passed away on September 29, 2016 in Marietta, Georgia.
He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Sophia (Humenny) Chekan and his brother Jack Chekan. James is survived by his beloved daughter, Nicole Chekan of Atlanta and the rest of his dear family and many friends.
James was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania on October 31, 1942. He had a life of service including honorably serving in the U.S. Navy as a young man and later joining the Eggertsville Volunteer Hose Company in Amherst, New York where he was elected as the Company President and served on the Board of Directors. After moving to Atlanta, James began a long and successful career with the United States Postal Service until his well earned retirement.
He was a long time devoted member of St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church in Smyrna, Georgia.
James was well known for his ease in conversation, his entertaining sense of humor and his endless caring and generosity to those he loved and even with total strangers in need. He will long be remembered by the numerous people whose lives were impacted by his smile, laughter and kindness.
James' family gratefully declines flowers and ask in lieu of donations and to honor his memory you make a difference in someone's life through a smile, a laugh or a random act of kindness.
