Obituary

Ida Ann (Viti) O'Malley, 91, of Hoschton, GA, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, Ida was the only child and a devoted daughter to Rizieri and Lucia Viti. Ida obtained a bachelor's degree in education, and began her teaching career in Bridgeport, CT before marrying John O'Malley in 1959. In 1960, their only child was born and in 1963 the family moved to Shelton, CT where they remained until retirement took them to Tampa Bay, Florida. The beach was great for a while, however, the mountains were calling and in 1996 they moved to Georgia to be close to family again and enjoy the beauty that came with the slight season changes. During her teaching career of 25 years, Ida taught elementary school where she had a significant influence on hundreds of students. To this day, many remember her as "the best teacher ever" and credit her for their success as adults due the self-confidence and inspiration she instilled in each and every student. Ida dedicated her life to caring for others in very subtle, but memorable ways — to her students, and always as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, all around family member and friend. Ida had a gift for making everyone feel special.  John and Ida hosted many of the family gatherings at their home which was always filled love, laughter, comfort and the warmth of their generous spirit. Many fond memories are rooted from these gatherings. Ida loved flowers (although not a gardener!), reading a variety of novels, doing word puzzles, writing letters and talking on the phone to family and friends.  Ida and John enjoyed  traveling:  they loved to cruise, drive to the mountains, and in later years the "senior" bus trips, lunch outings, and bingo games were a much loved pastime. Their favorite pets were their three Shelties:  Bucky, Duffy, and Magnum. Ida is survived by her Daughter, Eileen Collins (Grover); her grandchildren, Katie Collins (Patience) and Daniel Collins (Amanda); her Great-Grandchildren, Julia Grace and John Henry Collins; Nephews, Tom and Chris Samperi; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. A celebration of Ida's life will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the chapel at Collins Funeral Home, Main Street, Acworth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or other preferred charity.
Ida's  kindness, compassion, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
