Hugh Phillip Cantrell – known to most as "Phil"- age 80 of Acworth, Georgia, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018, following an extended illness.  Phil was born September 1, 1937, in Marietta, Georgia to Robert Dennis and Carrie Wills Cantrell.  The Cantrell family has resided in and contributed to the Acworth community since the early 1940s.  Phil was a graduate of Acworth High School in Acworth and Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia. He also attended the University of Tampa in Florida.  After college, Phil served with the United States Army, Europe, for two years in southern Germany between 1957-1959, as a sharpshooter in a combined arms division, helping to deter the threat posed by the former USSR. Phil had a varied and successful business career, working for the first 25 years as a financial executive in asset-based lending and the latter 20 years as a business owner of companies ranging from vending to real estate.  Phil loved the beach, football, boating, driving his truck, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene; son Jeffrey Phillip Cantrell and spouse Sherry, of Charlotte, NC; daughters Jami Quinonez Silverthorn and spouse Brooke, of Atlanta, GA and Mary Jennifer Cantrell and fiancé Martin, of New York, NY; sister Pansye Faye Boggs and spouse Wade of Oviedo, FL; grandchildren Broderick Phillip Quinonez, Alexander Carl Cantrell, Austin Phillip Cantrell, Alayna Lorien Lee Cantrell, Aidan Jeffrey Jackson Cantrell; as well as several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces.  Visitation will be at 2 PM Saturday, February 24, 2018 and memorial services at 3 PM, at Collins Funeral Home ( 4947 N. Main Street, Acworth, GA 30101 ) followed by a graveside service in Liberty Hill Cemetery.
