Herbert Franklin Vann was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world peacefully in his home on November 2, 2024, at age 91. Herb was born in Acworth, Georgia on September 8, 1933, son of the late William Franklin Vann and Janet Mildred Castile. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Vann Styles Bradford.

He was an active member of Summit Baptist Church until his declining health. He participated in numerous mission trips locally and worldwide, including Nicaragua and Russia. Herb started his career in Naval Intelligence and was the assistant to the Protestant Chaplin in the Navy from 1952 to 1984 when he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He also retired from White Westinghouse as Operations Manager. After that, he started a lawn maintenance company called Kleen Cut Lawn Care, which he ran from 1993-2020.

Herb had many talents and hobbies including playing the banjo, hand embroidery, leather work, writing/ journaling, drawing, motorcycles, and cars. He started playing banjo in his 30s and was well known throughout the southeast, playing at wedding venues, restaurants, and festivals. He was recognized by the Atlanta County Music Hall of Fame in 2004. He loved creating leather bracelets, purses/wallets, belts, and instrument straps to give to friends. He always looked forward to his annual motorcycle trip out West. In the 50s he raced a 1950s Oldsmobile Rocket at Red's Dragstrip in Dallas, Georgia, and brought home a few trophies. In his spare time, he completed an Acworth Police Academy course and a Calligraphy course at Kennesaw State University.

Survivors include a wife, Annette Hice Vann; daughters, Karen Vann-Aaron (Richard), Katie Vann-Blauvelt (Tyler), Angela Vann; a son, Wesley Vann (Nancie), eleven grandchildren, Brett Vann, Alex Vann, Amanda Haradon, Drew Aaron, Julie Vann, Maleea Vann, Aubrey Sanchez, Amberlee Sanchez, Miles Blauvelt, Ava Sanchez, Maverick Blauvelt; a brother, Joe Vann (Lina); a sister, Brenda Vann Putman; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Home, in Acworth, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 11 am to 1 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 pm in the chapel of the Collins Funeral Home in Acworth; officiated by Dale Hutson and Joe Durham, both lifelong friends. Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
