George Louis Yake, long time Steel salesman, passionate sports fan, big time barbecue grill lover, admirer of clean cars and freshly mowed grass passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

George was born and raised near Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from South Fayette High School.  He was raised by his parents George and Jean Yake along with his surviving brother Fred Yake of Gulfport, MS.  After high school George became a proud member of the United States Marines.  George later entered the steel industry in Pittsburgh in sales and worked throughout his career traveling the country and was dedicated to his craft.  He worked for companies that included Universal Cyclops, Allegheny Heat Treating and finished his career with SMI Steel in Birmingham, AL.  His job and the tumult in the steel industry required him to relocated multiple times from Pittsburgh, St Louis, Ashland, KY, back to Pittsburgh and later to Birmingham, AL.   He was married to his wife Janice Adele Yake in 1960 and they were married for 62 years.  Janice and George raised three Children Dean Michael Yake of Gulfport, MS, George Louis Yake, Jr. who preceded his father in death in 1962 and Dale Michael Yake of Atlanta, GA.

George was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren.  The Grandchildren include - Dean Yake and his wife Deanna Yake's daughter Alex Lebron.  Dale Yake and his wife Kristi Yake and their children Abigail Yake, Aidan Yake, Logan Crosswhite, Evan Crosswhite, Finley Yake and Noah Yake.  George enjoyed his grandchildren's sports and activities and was quick to offer a suggestion or advice given his history of coaching.

George was an avid follower of sports and having grown up in the Pittsburgh area was passionate about the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins.  He also loved the New York Yankees having grown up in the Joe DiMaggio era.  He helped to start a Pittsburgh area youth football league and coached one of the teams there over multiple decades.  He was very proud of his team known as the Cecil Trojans.  When he later moved to Birmingham, AL he became a huge fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide.  He missed very few sporting events and loved to golf and was an avid fan of the sport in tournament play.

George was known to enjoy his Saturdays mowing grass, cleaning his car, and grilling on his grill.  Those inclusions were his perfect Saturday.

George spent the last several years in Acworth, GA to be close to his family and enjoyed meeting and spending time with the coffee club at the Acworth YMCA.
