Mr. George H. Davis, age 80 of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on April 19, 2017.  George was born May 27, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama and was the son of the late James T. Davis, Sr. and Ruby Marie Gillean Davis.

He grew up in Decatur, Alabama and graduated from Decatur High School in 1954 where he lettered in football, basketball and track. George attended Athens College and the University of Tennessee in Memphis.  He was a proud member of the United States Marines having  served during the Korean Conflict.  George retired from the James River Corporation as the southeast Sales Manager and was a member of the Johnsons Ferry Baptist Church.

George was involved and supported youth athletics of East Marietta Sports Association.   He was an early sponsor and worked with The Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lenda Russell Davis of Marietta, GA; daughter, Rita Hall of Woodstock, GA; son, Russell Davis (Dana)  of Cumming, GA; three wonderful grandchildren, Emilie Hall, Erica Davis and Russell Davis.

Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from the Marietta Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Art Wilder will officiate.  The interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.

The Family will receive friends at the funeral home, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening.
