Obituary

George C. Cauble, III, 68, of Gray GA., passed away February 28, 2023, due to complications from ALS.  Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Saturday March 4, 2023 in the First Baptist Church Acworth with Dr. David Joyner officiating.  Mr. Cauble will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Lowe and son-in-law Johnny; son, Richard Schaffer; grandchildren: Tyler Lowe, Carlie Lowe, Macy Skinner, Brittan Stark, Holden Schaffer, and Hunter Schaffer; as well as five greatgrandchildren.  His sister, Terri C. Daniel, brother-in-law Noyace Daniel, and niece, Julie Ann Daniel, survive him also.  George is predeceased by his parents, Dr. George C. Cauble, Jr., and Mrs. Vivian Nicholson Cauble.

He was a graduate of North Cobb High School, Class of 1972 and was inducted into the North Cobb High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.  Always a dedicated athlete, outdoorsman, and strong competitor on the field, he continued his love of running, hiking, weightlifting, hunting, and even joined the Rugby Club team at University.

George graduated from Emory University as a member of the Class of 1977 in Accounting.  For over forty years he worked in management for H&R Block and enjoyed helping people with their taxes. George also loved working with his co-workers while managing offices across Georgia.  His priority was always his staff and had life-long connections with many.

While George grew up in Acworth, he spent most of his years in Macon.  During retirement, he rediscovered his love of short-story writing, which lead him to make many friends as an active participant in the Macon Writer's Group.  Further, George found his own voice in storytelling, and encouraged many others to tell their stories at monthly gatherings of Storytellers Macon, for whom he also served as Treasurer.  He was affectionately known as "The Sign-Up Guy" and welcomed regulars and new folks alike to sign-up to tell their story to the audience.  He was recently featured as a "Cast Highlight" at Storytellers Macon: Live at Wesleyan College, where he told his story, "1968" via previous recording.

George, speaking on the recent Storytellers Macon event noted this: "What I love about Storytellers is that…everyone has a story to tell, and Storytellers allows people to tell that story in a free, uncensored, and supportive way.  Witnessing other participants has allowed me to see how so many people from so many diverse backgrounds have many of the same hopes, fears, and dreams."

He will be greatly missed – his compassion, his determination, his unyielding support for his family and friends, and his true kindness to all will always be remembered and cherished.

The family will receive friends Friday afternoon 4:00-5:30pm, Collins Funeral Home, 4947 N. Main St. Acworth, GA 30101, 770.974.3133.
