Mossey
Jul 4, 1941 — Sep 5, 2025
Ernest Arthur Mossey
Born July 4, 1941, Norwich, CT
Died September 5, 2025, Acworth, GA
Ernest "Ernie" Arthur Mossey passed away peacefully at home with family in Acworth, GA on September 5, 2025 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Ernie untiringly provided for his family his entire life and charmed everyone with his disarming personality, culinary talents, artistic creativity and love of nature.
The son of the late Ernest Mossey and the late Colombe (DesSureault) Mossey of Norwich, CT, Ernie graduated from Norwich Free Academy and thereafter studied art and design at Pratt Institute in New York, NY.
Ernie leaves a rich family legacy that spans four generations. He married Bernice Eva Joly in 1964 and, together, they raised four children. In 1977, Ernie moved his family from Norwich to Cape Coral, FL, creating new roots while providing his children with enduring support to build their futures and families in Florida and beyond. In 2018, Ernie and Bernice relocated to Georgia, under the loving care of their daughter, Erica Schricker and her husband Brad, in Acworth.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Bernice Mossey, Ernie is survived by his four children and their spouses, Michelle and Berry Allen, Luke and Shelly Mossey, Christopher Mossey and Fabio Tolosa Barreto, and Erica and Bradley Schricker; his grandchildren, Ethan Schricker, Hannah Schricker, Kianna Mossey and her fiancé Casey Paz, Patrick Smarr, Quinn and Shelby Mossey, and Scott and Brandie Allen; great-grandchildren Mason Mossey, Brayden Allen, Hudson Allen, and Landon Allen; his sister-in-law, Andrea McCall and her daughter Danielle McCall; and his brother-in-law, the Reverend Philip Joly.
Ernie is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Mossey, MD.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at St Andrew's Catholic Church in Cape Coral, Florida, 2628 Del Prado Blvd S, on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11:15am. Before his death, Ernie requested that attendees of his funeral mass wear colorful clothes - "like the colors of a garden" - instead of black.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes charitable donations in memory of Ernest Mossey in support of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, designated to the Winship Pancreatic and Liver Oncology Fund. Donations can be made through this link or by mailing a check to Winship Center Institute of Emory University, Development Office, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 2400, Atlanta, GA 30322 and include the name of Ernest Mossey on the memo line of the check.
