Ella Mae Yarbrough, "Nanny" as many people knew her, was born on September 11, 1932, in Turner County, GA. She passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2021 at her home in Acworth, GA. She enjoyed cooking (she made the best dressing, dumplings and biscuits you've ever had), she loved music, flowers & gardening, spending time with her family, and all her "kids"; but nothing brought her more joy than listening to Alan Jackson while preparing a big meal and everyone gathering at her house.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Addie Lou Gibbs Coleman; father, William Austin Coleman; step-mother Edna Watson Coleman; husband of 54 years Charles S. "Hoss" Yarbrough, daughter Marie Conner and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by one brother, Lewis "Shug" Coleman (Myrtle); her daughter, Charlene Johnson (Sam); grandchildren Steven Willard (Debra), Wesley Willard (Christy), Jimmy Willard (Ashley), Jesse Willard (Mandy), Gary Conner (Tiffany) and Kenya Johnson; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her best friend of 40+ years, Joyce Glass, as well as several of her caregivers who became her family: Kia, Rebecca, Patricia & Shi, plus a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members & friends who she loved very much.

Nanny was one of the last of a dying breed; one of those who never met a stranger, always put others' needs before her own, and she genuinely cared for every person she ever met. She would welcome anyone into her home for a meal, whether she had met them or if they were just tagging along with a family member or friend. When her grandsons were growing up, she always made sure the neighborhood kids had snacks and a safe place to go. After they were grown, she continued that with her great-grandchildren. They would get off the bus and go straight to Nanny's for a snack, or sometimes just to help her rake leaves. She will forever be loved, and greatly missed.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family viewing will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 9:30 am at Collins Funeral Home (4947 N Main St, Acworth, GA 30101), with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 am at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens (4355 SR-92 S, Acworth, GA 30102). All are welcome to attend the graveside services as long as you follow social distancing guidelines. For those who aren't able to attend but would still like to participate, a live stream will be provided on the Collins Funeral Home Facebook page, which is available to anyone free of charge at: www.facebook.com/AcworthFuneralHome/ . The livestream can be viewed as a guest with this link, even if you don't have a Facebook account.
