Coleman Slay, 63 of Armuchee, Georgia passed November 29, 2015 surrounded by his family. Born March 5, 1952 in Bonifay FL, he was the son of the late Coleman Slay, Sr. and Vivian Marsh. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Ronnie Slay, mother-in-law Frances Ponder, and son-in-law Eric White.
Coleman graduated Bonifay High School in 1970, and earned his Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Education from Samford University. His career in education spanned 37 years. Coach Slay taught at Mt. Brook Elementary School in Alabama and retired from Armuchee Elementary in 2012.
Coleman loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a devoted Bama fan and an active hunter and fisherman who greatly enjoyed time spent on Weiss Lake with his many fishing buddies.
Coleman is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jenette Ponder Slay, and children Reiner Slay (Lauren), Bragan Slay White, Kilie Slay, and Matthew Bowley (Mandy). Grandchildren Aria Slay, Rylan and Kasen White, and Calvin, Everett, and Samuel Bowley. His sisters Deborah Mayfield, Vickie Marsh, Phyllis Walls, father-in-law Henderson Ponder, sister-in-law Claudette Mahan (Jerry) and numerous other nieces, nephews and relatives.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Collins Funeral Home 4947 North Main Street, Acworth, GA on Wednesday December 2. Visitation is from 12:00 noon and funeral services start at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. David Lucas officiating.
Coleman will be laid to rest at Summerville Cemetery in Summerville, GA.
