Clayton Eugene "Gene" Simpson, 80, of Woodstock, died Monday, May 22, 2017.  Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday, May 26, 2017 in the Chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Rev. Gerry Davis officiating.  Burial will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park.

Mr. Simpson was born in Marietta and lived most of his life in the Campground community of Cobb County.  He served 18 years as an inside sales representative for Thomas R. Hobson Broker, and served 11 years at Lockheed as a structural assembler. Mr. Simpson was a lifelong attendee of the Marietta Campmeeting, and was a member of a tent holder family.  He served many years as a coach of numerous teams in East Cobb, including the East Marietta Little League, and was an avid Falcons fan.  He graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1955.  He was also a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Lou Davis Simpson of Woodstock; sons, Rusty Simpson of Woodstock and Danny Simpson (Terrie) of Smyrna, TN; sister, Nellie Miller of Smyrna; sisters-in-law, Joan Simpson of Marietta and Betty Simpson of Canton; grandchildren, Sammy Simpson (Pasha) and Ashley Simpson (Randal); 5 great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
