Cheryl Darlene Hutchinson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and community member, transitioned peacefully surrounded by her friends and family on Saturday, January 25, 2025.  Funeral service will be 2:00pm Saturday, February 1, in the Hiram Church of Christ.  The family will receive friends Friday evening 5-8pm, at Collins Funeral Home, 4947 N. Main St., Acworth, GA  and Saturday 1-2pm at Hiram Church of Christ, prior to the service.

Born on June 17, 1956, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Cheryl grew up on BlackFord Street, where she developed a deep love for animals, from raising cats, dogs, chickens and ducks. Her childhood was filled with the sounds of her brother playing the piano, and she was a daddy's girl, enjoying a close and loving relationship with her father.

Cheryl attended Howard High School and briefly pursued higher education at Hampton University. At the age of 19, she made the decision to return home and began working at Planters, where she would spend the next 46 years. Her dedication and hard work earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues, and she became a beloved member of the company.

On December 23, 1978, Cheryl married Virgil Hutchinson in Ringgold, Georgia. Together, they welcomed two children, Virgil and Alicia. Cheryl played a pivotal role in raising them, guiding them to become successful in their careers and nurturing them into loving spouses and parents themselves. Her commitment to family extended to her grandchildren, with whom she shared countless special moments. Even while battling dementia and speaking rarely, Cheryl's love for her grandchildren was evident when she recognized Angelina and Ava and said: "Those are my babies."

Cheryl retired after a remarkable 46-year career at Mars/Wrigley, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and excellence. Cheryl's passions included gardening, spending time with loved ones, socializing within her community, cleaning up the neighborhood, and singing. Her cheerful spirit and active involvement in her community were a testament to her generous and caring nature.

An active member of Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Cheryl devoted her time and energy to her faith and community, fostering strong bonds and supporting those around her. She was known as the "frozen lady" for selling frozen drinks from her home, always ready to bring joy to her neighbors. Cheryl was a vigilant and protective neighbor, dedicated to keeping the neighborhood clean and safe, and always seeking ways to help others.

Cheryl is survived by her beloved children, Alicia Darlene Smith and Virgil Hutchinson; her daughter-in-law, DeYondalan Hutchinson and son-in-law Michael Smith; and her cherished grandchildren, Blake Parham, Mariposa Isabella Raine Hutchinson, Ryland Eli Lenear Hutchinson, Angelina Madeleine Smith, and Ava Alexandria Smith. She is also survived by many cousins, friends, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Khan; her mother, Edna Khan; and her brothers, Shedrick Khan and George Samuel Khan. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends who shared in her life and memories.

Cheryl will be remembered for the precious time she spent with her family, the laughter they shared, her delicious meals, and her unwavering support during challenging times. Known as a hard worker who didn't tolerate nonsense, Cheryl's legacy is one of love, dedication, and kindness. She was fiercely protective of her children, valued her lifelong friendships from her workplace, and remained loyal to her church and community. Outgoing and personable, Cheryl dedicated her life to her church, her work, and her beloved family, leaving behind a lasting impression on all who knew her.
