Charlie Roscoe Carden's Obituary
Charlie Roscoe Carden, 78, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 20 at 1:00 PM at Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Marietta with Dr. Don Mason officiating. Mr Carden will lie-in-state at the church from 12:00 – 1:00 PM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bertha Carden; a brother Ramon Carden; sister, Virginia Van Ormon. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Gray Carden; children, Rod and Alicia, Carla and Russell, Jane and Duffy; step-children, Sherry Gray, Ken Gray and Alicia Bowman; (4) grandchildren, Johnathan, Sarah, Lisa and Evelyn; (5) step-grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Lydia, Skyler and Anthony, Sawyer; (1) step-great grandson, Benson.
As a child, he was in Boy Scouts of America and became an Eagle Scout August 26, 1956. Roscoe, graduated Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL with a Bachelor's in Secondary Education in 1963 and Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC with a Master's in Secondary Education in 1968. He obtained his Georgia Life and Health License in 1988 and his Georgia Property, Casualty, and Commercial License in 1993. He taught social sciences, physical education, and coached football in the Georgia Public School System from 1963 - 1994. Roscoe, was awarded the following coach of the year awards; The Chattanooga Times Region 1965, The Marietta Daily Journal Region 1974, 1975 and 1979, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Region 1975, The Atlanta Touchdown Club 1979, voted assistant coach of the year by region 5AA Coaches 1989. He was inducted into the North Cobb High School Athletic Hall of Fame September 28, 2007. He retired, after over 30 years of service. Roscoe, owned his own insurance agency which included life, personal lines, and commercial from 1994 -1996. He was a member of the Kennesaw Optimist Club, Ke
nnesaw Downtown Development Authority. He was an active member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church where he taught the Seekers Sunday School class.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, evening June 19th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Marietta Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to The Gideons International Bible Society at
