Obituary

A. Roy Fowler III, 77, lifelong resident of Acworth and Kennesaw passed peacefully surrounded by family.

He was born on December 28, 1948, to A. Roy Fowler II and Dorothy Fowler. He attended North Cobb high school where he was a multi-sport athlete with a focus on baseball. Roy then went on to earn a degree in Communications at Georgia Southern University. During this time, he assisted with the foundation of the Sigma Nu chapter at GSU, a membership he would maintain involvement for decades.

Shortly after beginning his career in water treatment, he was drafted for Vietnam. He was offered deferment based on government employment but believed it was his duty to answer the call. Roy would then go on to be stationed at a facility in West Germany where he assisted with communications.

After completing his service, Roy returned to Wyckoff Water Treatment Plant where he would start as an entry level operator and progress all the way to General Manager of Cobb County Water Authority. During that time, he started a family. He spent many years coaching his children and was heavily involved in the baseball/softball communities of both Acworth and Kennesaw. He remarried later in life and settled in an area closely linked to his family.

Roy was an excellent public speaker and never shied away from an audience. During the water shortage crisis, he led the charge of communicating on TV, newspapers, and at conferences, if there was a group ready to listen he was on it. He was known for his humor and it was there regardless of the obstacle.

He was a lifelong Conservative and member of the Republican party. He served his community for over 3 decades providing safe drinking water. He took pride in his local community and believed in helping those you can when you can. He respected those around him and he truly cherished an individual's ability to live the life they can provide for themselves.

Roy is survived by his wife Gail Fowler; his children Joanne DeLancey, Andrew Fowler and Patrick Fowler; his stepchildren Josh Nelson and Tiffany Newberry; his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren and others whose lives were enriched by knowing him
