Amy Thacker Gross' Obituary
Amy Thacker Gross, 67, of Canton, died Sunday, November 15, 2015. She is survived by her devoted husband, John; her son, David; her daughter, Alison (Heath) Blalock; her stepson Nathan (Brenda) Gross; six grandchildren; her sister Carol (Jim) Pitts; and her brother, Michael. She is preceded in death by her father, Luther Thacker; her mother, Mary Cowart (Bill) Age; and her brother, Lynwood (Judy) Thacker. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21st at 3pm in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Rice officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3pm on Saturday prior to the service at Marietta Funeral Home.

Amy Jo Thacker was born September 22, 1948 in Chattanooga, TN, the third of four children born to Mary and Luther Thacker. The Lord gifted her from the start with a sense of humor and from an early age she was always able to make those around her laugh.
In 1971, Amy reconnected with an old boyfriend and before long Amy Thacker became Mrs. John Gross. John's son, Nathan made them a family of three, and thus began the family that would soon include a delightful, happy son, David, and a beautiful daughter with a head full of dark hair, Alison.
In 1988, Amy was hired as a temp at Bellsouth Mobility. Over the next 24 years, she worked her way up in the company which would eventually become AT&T Mobility until her illness forced her retirement in 2012.
The lights of Amy's life were her soul-mate, John; her children; and her grandchildren - Nathan and his wife Brenda's children, Tyler and Sidney; and Alison and her husband Heath's children, Jordie, Reesie, Peanut, and Bubbie (Jordan, Reese, Rylan, Heath, jr. to the unititiated).
Amy and John had the kind of love most people can only dream of. They would have been married 44 years on November 19th, but they had known each other for 50 years. She was not only his wife but his best friend, his buddy, and the love of his life. They did everything together and enjoyed every minute of it. She liked what he liked and he liked what she liked. They were inseparable, a team, and immensely entertaining together, especially when playing their favorite game, Skip-Bo.
During her illness, he devoted his entire existence to her care, doing everything in his power to make her happy. They tried to keep life as "normal" as possible. Amy loved to work in the yard, directing John where to dig and what to plant while she would weed and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. They especially loved to eat out at restaurants and to travel with Amy's beloved and devoted sister, Carol, and Carol's husband, Jim.
On November 15th, Amy entered into the bosom of her Lord Christ. She was surrounded by her family who loved her more than can be imagined.
