On Thursday, July 30, 2020, Mary Allene Abernathy, known by family and friends as Allene, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Graveside service will be 1:00pm Tuesday in the Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating.  Allene was born on November 15, 1947 in Marietta where she lived most of her life.  She grew up in the Elizabeth Community in Marietta where she continued to live after marrying Donald Abernathy. She attended Elizabeth Elementary School and Sprayberry High School. Allene never met a stranger and was always surrounded by family and friends.  The happy, energetic mother of three children, four grandchildren, and five children grandchildren was happiest when she was surrounded by her family.

Allene and her husband owned and ran Ivey Hills Market on Austell Road for fifteen years. After leaving the family produce business, she worked in the cafeteria at Eastside Elementary School in Marietta for three years. After which, upon the request of Marietta friends, she began Allene's Produce at the Marietta Market On the Square. There, she became an icon affectionately known to customers as "The Tomato Lady" and served her customers for eight years.

Allene was preceded in death by her son, Rusty Voyles, her grandson, DR Holland, her mother, Cuba Wilmoth, her father, Lee Wilmoth, a brother and four sisters. She leaves behind her husband, Donald  Abernathy of Acworth, two daughters – Tammie Holland of Marietta, Margaret Perry of Kennesaw,  three grandchildren – Sarah Freeze of Marietta, Russell Holland of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Blaine Hurst of Kennesaw, and five great grandchildren Mason and Gavin Freeze of Dallas, Preston Holland-Spawn of Texas, Wyatt Rhodes-Holland,  and Rylan Holland.
